Fight Depression with Integrative Medicine

I talked with Someone on the phone the other day that was facing anxiety and depression and they couldn’t get an appointment with their Psychiatrist for another month.   I wanted to list out somethings they could do to help lower their overall anxiety and depression using positive psychology and proven herbal teas and foods.

Dietary and Life Style Changes to Help Anxiety and Depression:
  • Chamomile Tea
  • Passionflower Tea
  • Rose hips tea or Rose Oil
  • Valerian tea
  • Canteloupe
  • Carrots (No more than 1 cup every other day)
  • Vitamin D – get Vitamin D by 9-12 minutes of sunlight exposure on your skin every day
  • Magnesium  – get more magnesium in your body by eating more of the following food items
  • Eat more food items with Lysine
  • Eat more food items with B Vitamins
    • Parsley
    • Sage
    • Basil
    • Eggs
    • Sardines
    • Grapefruit
    • Bananas
    • Papayas
    • Feta Cheese

  • Eat more foods with Omega-3’s
  • Restore your good gut bacteria (bad gut bacteria and depression is linked together)
    • Probiotic Foods   (strengthen your immune system and improve digestion of the herbs you are consuming.  If you took antibiotics, then probiotic foods will be necessary to recovery your good gut bacteria.  Smaller stool, constipation, or not having a regular bowel movement are the signs for when probiotic foods are extremely necessary.  Avoid foods or spices that have antibacterial properties during a 1 -3 month period to restore your good gut bacteria.)
  • Get 7 – 9 hours of sleep every night (not enough sleep will increase your appetite for unhealthy foods, which will cause your overall health to decline and increase fatigue)

    • Watch more comedies during the week.
    • Genuine laughter releases dopamine and endorphins that makes you feel good.
  • Cleanup and Declutter
    • A cluttered workspace or at cluttered home adds more daily stress and makes your life more chaotic.
    • Add more structure to your daily routine to help slowly build up your mood over time.
  • Stop Eating Kale or other Heavy Metal Poisoning and How to Detox

    • Journal about things you are grateful for.
    • Journal about three good things that happened during your day at the end of everyday
    • Reframe in your mind mistakes and other bad things that happen as learning opportunities
